Thanks Joe, I've been driving for 48 years and have never been at fault in an accident , never backed up into anyone, nothing. Until 2 weeks ago, when I was under stress from all sides. Just a fender bender, and the truck I backed into was parked, but my head was elsewhere because of stress. To me it's a huge factor. I'm glad you think it's an important factor, too.
Stress is huge. I totaled a car when I was a single mother who was paying her bills on a kind of rotation. Some folks just had to wait and they weren’t always nice about it.
Speeding has a lot to do with more traffic accidents; speeding on highways and speeding on local streets because who needs to follow speed limits; I see it everyday.
There's a stretch of highway I travel all the time, and the speed limit is 55, and I refuse to go over 55. Every time I'm on that road I get passed up, cars swerving around me and drivers regularly give me the finger...all for going the speed limit.

I had no idea that accidents were up or that POC were more affected. And I am not qualified to even guess the reasons for either. However, Thank you for making me aware of this
And thanks for caring, Jan. I was also surprised at the spike and am glad that the DOT has allocated fresh funds to improve all transportation safety, including air travel
Post-vaccine automobile accident on roadways, caused by mini-strokes and blood clots in the brain. People are driving off the roads and striking trees -- veering into other cars for head-on collisions -- and apparently losing cognitive function while behind the wheel.
I really appreciated your inclusion of stress as a contributing factor. Definitely something that can't be ignored!
This is complete conjecture, but I imagine poorer neighborhoods are more crowded, meaning more cars, meaning higher likelihood of crashes.
