Great post! I am of the mind the wealthy wealthy actually steal money from the rest of us and why is 50 million a dividing line of where you would tax wealth. On the psychological aspect of wealth, as a culture US is enamored with wealth, been sold to us. In the wake of this, the common good or caring for others is sunk in the mud and vapors. I could rant on but Joan, keep on posting!

Thank you, Jane. I have written about "the common good" numerous times on Crime and Punishment because it's the reason our government exists, after all. So I'm glad you tied that in! And the U.S. is indeed enamored of wealth. At this point, though, the gap between the ultra wealthy and everyone else has become obscene and seems to continue to grow each day. Collectively, we have to find a way to break this cycle.

What really saddens me is that collectively a large population votes against their own best interests. Although I am lucky to have an education, most of the jobs I’ve held have been with a population that has only a high school education and not a very good one. I can’t blame someone who doesn’t understand some of the underlying issues of the predator capitalism in this country and how it is injuring them. They never believe the size of the military budget, instead believe that really small sliver of tax dollars for human services is upending the wealth of the US and creating its debt. Only the tip of some solid beliefs.

Yes, that "voting against their own self-interest" ha been true for a long time. The Dems have been attempting to convince those who should otherwise be their voters to see their folly, but to little avail. And they did this more than ever when they voted for our former President...both times!
