There are also so many chronic health conditions that aren’t even treatable by the healthcare that’s covered by insurance. For those conditions, quite often it’s only the wealthy who can afford alternative and ancillary treatments. And that wealth is rarely attained through working because many with chronic conditions can’t meet the demands of our working culture.
41% of Americans carry medical debt?!?!!! Wow. I know of several declared bankruptcies back in the ‘90s and early 2000s due to medical debt- but now I think the laws have changed and this isn’t allowed. Absolutely insane. You’d think we were a third world country- or at least back in the days of debtors prisons 😞
Medicaid expansion should not be left up to each individual state; it should be mandatory across the board. The insurance companies should not be able to pick and choose what health care a person can receive. This country needs universal health coverage like almost every other civilized country has.
I totally agree that Medicaid expansion should not be left up to the states, and neither did the first round of the AFC. But the Supreme court struck down that particular provision and upheld the rest of the law. I have not read that case but should to better understand why they struck down that portion of the law.

Was it the current redneck Supreme Court that struck it down??
It was decided in 2012 by a 5-4 decision with a number of different justices from today's court: https://www.kff.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/8347.pdf
