There is a shortage of homes for sale in Seattle for several reasons and real estate prices are through the roof. Two doctors from the east coast paid 1 million over the asking price here because they loved the home and the ritzy area it is in. Some folks who actually own homes here cannot afford their exorbitant property taxes. Of course apartment rents are ridiculous.

They also expect home prices to keep going up because Amazon announced it was giving huge pay increases to its upper echelon employees. That also accounts for why Amazon increased it's Prime fees and added $10 delivery on Whole Foods.

Seattle is an expensive place to live, has a huge homeless population which will only become larger as people's rents increase, and really is suited only for upper middle class and above.
