What Is The Poverty Trap…
The Poverty Trap: Why The Poor Stay Poor in America is a newsletter for all those who want to better understand how our system is “rigged” against the poor, working class and middle class and in favor of the mostly white and wealthy. But don’t think I’m talking about conspiracy theories, here. If the word “rigged” seems too harsh, substitute “the deck is stacked against” those with lower or moderate incomes and little family wealth, through purposeful policy choices by our elected officials, our laws and culture. Please enjoy a read through this newsletter’s Archive to see what I mean.
I practiced environmental law for nearly fifteen years, and it was a cause for me, not just a job. I began to learn then, that the roots of economic, racial and environmental injustice overlap, and how this intersection causes inequality for millions of Americans like you and me. I’ve also learned from researching and writing this newsletter for the past three-plus years, that working together, we can lay fertile ground for real economic, racial and environmental justice.
Most importantly, this newsletter is for those who want to help change our system just enough so every American can thrive.
I hope you’ll join us on our journey to better understand our system and then change it to benefit all, not just the few. To benefit “the common good”.
