I appreciate the link to FDR’s fireside chat. It reminds me how far we’ve digressed, but gives me hope that future leaders can aspire to civility and a greater regard for the common good. We’ll need smart leadership to deal with projected shortfalls in social security benefits in the not too distant future.

Thanks, Madaline—I love listening to FDR speak. And yes, that "common good thing". We need a leader to rally the nation around the common good, like FDR.

The idea that any Social Security recipient supports Republicans plans, minimal or radical, is ludicrous.

Thank you as always for a great post

2.) What is this new thing, IRMMA?

2.) Is it legal for SSA to stop ex-spousal benefits (available after 10+ years of marriage) if that person earns more in his/her own benefits than what was earned via the ex? Taking that sum away is like saying those years never happened, and takes/keeps the monthly benefit far below the poverty level even of a Third World country.

There is nowhere one could survive on the paltry sum in America.

3.) Also, please inform people about the benefits of special needs trusts for disabled children/beneficiaries rather than a pension.

4.) Also, realty trusts to protect primary residences from debtors. The “look-back” period varies, so it’s important to establish these documents asap, not wait until infirmity strikes.
